Labour of Love Atelier Skirt
COMING SOON!
Our Atelier Skirt: inspired by memory, made for daydreams.
This special piece began in a sunlit flea market, where we discovered an antique French skirt—soft with age, rich with history, and sadly, too tattered to wear. We fell in love with it and brought it home, where it rested for years at the studio, waiting. At last, we’ve reimagined the design and the silhouette—preserving its romance while weaving in a little story of our own.
As a little girl, wildflowers grew in the woods near our house here on the West Coast. White fawn lilies nodded in the shade of trees, and vines of trumpet honeysuckle glowed like lanterns. I used to believe they were fairy skirts, left behind after midnight dances in the forest. (My mother told me never to pick them or the fairies wouldn't come back. I took that very seriously. I still do ;)) Our Atelier Skirt’s flowing lower panel is finished with a soft flounce inspired by those wild blooms, designed to move with you like petals in the breeze. The little ties along the flounce can be left loose for a more bohemian, undone look, or tied into small bows for a touch of old-world French charm.
We’ve added an easy elastic waistband with adjustable drawstring to make it as comfortable as it is flattering, and it’s designed to suit a wide range of shapes and sizes. And yes—there are pockets (because fairies need pockets)! Crafted from our signature custom-woven fabric, it drapes beautifully and feels as lovely as it looks—light, flowy, and endlessly wearable.
A skirt for everyday adventures, daydreams, and moonlit wandering— and perhaps even for dancing, if the fairies happen to be near :)
xo,
Danielle
About the Print:
At Market of Stars, we are fierce believers in art — real art — made by human hands. To us, the arts in all their beautiful, riotous forms, represent the very best of who we are, and the depth of emotion, imagination, and empathy we are capable of as human beings. It’s why we choose not to use AI art in our work. Why would we ever give away the best of who we are? Labour of Love is a heartfelt reaction against AI art, and our joyful celebration of the arts in all their marvellous and imperfect beauty. Music, literature, painting, cooking, crafting, creating — are represented here in a glorious collage of art from the past four centuries. The open book at the bottom of our design reads: anima in opere, which translates from latin as the soul in the work, or the work of the soul. The trim is a stunning and resonant quote from Rumi: “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do. There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the earth.” This is our way: to support and celebrate real artists, and make a promise to you that we will never use AI art in our pieces at Market of Stars. The beauty of what we love… will always be what we do.
100% viscose (derived from plant fibres such as bamboo and wood). Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.
Our Atelier Skirts are available in two size-runs. S/M will fit approximately size 4/10 and the L/XL will fit approximately size 12/18. We take all our measurements on a garment lying flat. So the circumference would be roughly double the listed number.
General approximate measurements — S/M: Length 93cm. Waist (flat) 39cm and with elastic stretched 61cm. L/XL: Length 93cm. Waist (flat) 42cm and with elastic stretched 65cm. Model is 5'7 for reference and is wearing the S/M.
