Introducing Wildheart — a centuries-old celebration of love in its truest form: untamed, devoted, and freely chosen. Created from a richly layered collage of historic tapestries spanning the 1400s through the 1700s, this lush print gathers verdant French landscapes, medieval banners, castle borders, and woven gardens from across the ages. At its heart is the beloved Unicorn Rests in a Garden tapestry, one of the most enduring and romantic images in medieval art. In it, the mythic unicorn — long a symbol of the untameable — rests within a garden enclosure. Though collared, the buckle is loose; though fenced, the boundary is low. The unicorn could leave if she wished, and yet she stays — a wild thing held not by hands, but by the heart. The banners that frame our design are also drawn from an antique tapestry, and bear the words in English and Latin:
No hand may keep a wild thing / Nulla manus ferum retinet
Yet the heart may hold it / Cor tamen id tenet
The rich, deep red trim carries the phrase Love is Enough, reconstructed from gilded lettering found in a Flemish painting from the 1500s. It’s our nod to the enduring belief — embraced as a motto by one of our great influences, artist William Morris — that love itself is both sustenance and shelter. Wildheart is our ode to love that honours freedom, cherishes wildness, and understands that what is chosen freely is what will always endure.

Please note: The nature of our soft bamboo/wood viscose means it’s slightly sheer, so we recommend layering it with our Étoile slip (or any other slip you have) when wearing it with bare legs. Our model in the photos is wearing the dress without a slip. Shown worn with our Wildheart Opera Duster (sold separately).

100% viscose (derived from plant fibres such as bamboo and wood). Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.

We take all our measurements on a garment lying flat. Approximate measurements w/ Adjustable Straps: S/M — length 132cm at shortest strap adjustment, 142cm at longest. Width 52cm (across bust, underarm to underarm), 54cm (across waist seam). L/XL — 134 cm length at shortest strap adjustment, 144cm at longest. Width 57cm (across bust, underarm to underarm), 59 cm (across waist seam).

How To Wear

This romantic dress is equally at home in a castle garden, or your favourite little café. For an easy daytime outfit, pull on a cropped fisherman knit, and add a vintage belt, tall leather boots, and a crossbody bag for a chic and textural look. Or keep things simple on warmer days with sandals, an unbuttoned white linen shirt, long pendant necklace, and a worn leather tote. For nights under the stars, layer it under a velvet blazer in claret or black, and add an antique brooch for a look that feels a little literary, and very chic. We’ll be wearing ours with the matching Opera duster and leather lace-up boots for full drama— come meet us at the castle ;)

The unicorn tapestries are among the most beloved works of medieval art — woven between the late 1400s and early 1500s, at a time when tapestries were prized not only for their beauty, but for their warmth, symbolism, and storytelling power. Made from wool and silk, and coloured with natural dyes, these enormous woven scenes once lined the stone walls of castles, transforming cold interiors into lush, dreamlike gardens filled with flowers, animals, and mythic creatures.

The Unicorn Rests in a Garden scene is especially enchanting. Unlike earlier depictions that focus on the hunt of the unicorn, this image shows the creature at peace — resting within a flowering enclosure, alert yet calm. Though collared, the tether is loose; though fenced, the boundary is low. Art historians have long noted that the unicorn appears free to leave if it wishes, suggesting a rare medieval idea: that true devotion cannot be forced. Love, in this telling, is something chosen.

Tapestries were often filled with layers of meaning. Flowers and plants weren’t just decorative — they carried symbolic messages of love, fidelity, abundance, and renewal. Borders and banners frequently included text, mottos, or verses, allowing woven images to speak in words as well as pictures. With Wildheart, we loved leaning into this tradition, weaving together imagery and language to tell a story of love that honours wildness rather than containing it.
